DHT Team
Operations Director
Sustainability isn't a buzzword at DHT — it's a core operational principle. Here's how we're working to minimize our environmental footprint while maintaining the premium quality our clients expect.
FSC-Certified Timber
100% of the teak we use comes from FSC-certified plantations. This means the forests are managed responsibly, with replanting programs that ensure long-term sustainability.
We maintain full chain-of-custody documentation from forest to factory.
Water-Based Finishes
We've transitioned 80% of our finishing line to water-based sealers and stains. These products emit significantly fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than traditional solvent-based finishes, improving air quality for both our workers and the environment.
Waste Reduction
Wood offcuts are sorted and repurposed:
- Large pieces → small accessories or sample materials
- Medium pieces → fuel briquettes for local communities
- Sawdust → collected by agricultural partners for composting
Energy Efficiency
Our kiln drying facility uses heat recovery systems that reduce energy consumption by 30% compared to conventional kilns. We've also installed solar panels covering 40% of our factory roof, generating clean energy for our operations.
Packaging
We use recycled cardboard for all our packaging and have eliminated single-use plastic foam. Furniture is protected with honeycomb paper cushioning and reusable blankets for local deliveries.
Looking Ahead
2026 Targets:
- Achieving zero-waste-to-landfill status
- Transitioning to 100% water-based finishes
- Publishing our first annual sustainability report
